There are strong indications that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, is set to leave his ministerial position and assume a Senate seat, following a recent Court of Appeal ruling that upheld his victory in the Plateau South Senatorial election.
Lalong, a former governor of Plateau State and a director in the Tinubu Presidential Council, recently received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), officially solidifying his status as a Senator-elect.
Sources close to Lalong, speaking with Vanguard, have disclosed that preparations are underway for his transition to the Senate. The move is seen as part of his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu, and his desire to contribute to the legislative process.
“The Minister will very soon join the Senate. He will go there to ensure that President Bola Tinubu succeeds. The Senate is where the elders are, and he wants to join them. A new, younger person will be appointed by Mr President as the Minister representing Plateau State to replace His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment as soon as he resigns,” the source revealed.
The anticipated move comes after the Court of Appeal affirmed Lalong’s victory in the senatorial election, providing the legal foundation for his transition from the executive to the legislative arm of government. The development is expected to prompt the appointment of a new minister to represent Plateau State in the federal cabinet.
