In response to the recent protest staged at the National Assembly, where demonstrators called for his resignation, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has shrugged off the demands, asserting that he remains focused on the government’s mandate.
Addressing the protest on Thursday, Wike expressed his indifference to the dissenting voices, emphasizing that not everyone will align with government policies. He underscored the importance of taking actions in the best interest of the people, despite differing opinions.
The protest, led by Abuja natives and civil society groups, criticized Wike’s leadership as incompetent and lacking a vision for the development of the FCT. Adamu Kabir Matazu, representing the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability, specifically called for an investigation into Wike’s land allocation policies in the FCT.
In response to the allegations, Wike dismissed the protesters’ claims, asserting that he remains undistracted by their actions. He attributed the protest to individuals he believes were paid to participate, stating, “I won’t be distracted by such things as I remain focused on delivering the mandate of President Bola Tinubu to the people of the FCT.”
During the flag-off of remedial work on Asokoro and Wuse roads, Wike further emphasized his commitment to fulfilling the mandate given by President Tinubu. He downplayed the significance of the protest, stating, “I don’t even have time to see all that. I don’t want to be distracted. I want to be focused to deliver on the mandate given to us by Mr President.”
Wike’s response indicates a steadfast commitment to his role as FCT Minister, undeterred by calls for his resignation and attributing the protest to external influences.
