Nigeria’s Federal Airports Authority (FAAN) has implemented a ban on the use of ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags by passengers at all airports across the country, with a specific focus on those traveling through international airports.
The circular, titled ‘Re: Prohibition of Usage Of Ghana Must Go,’ signed by Manager, Airport Services, Henok Gizachew, outlines the rationale behind the decision, citing significant losses incurred by airlines and damage to airport conveyor belt systems.
Gizachew emphasized that the ban is a response to the adverse impact of ‘Ghana Must Go’ sacks on airlines, leading to substantial financial losses and the deterioration of airport infrastructure. The circular explicitly states that passengers intending to use such bags for travel must ensure that they are appropriately packaged in cartons or hardcovers of rectangular size.
The use of ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags has been identified as a contributing factor to the breakdown of conveyor belt systems in various airports across the country, imposing considerable financial burdens on the airport authority. The ban seeks to mitigate these challenges by regulating the type of packaging allowed for passenger belongings.
