Aliyu Abdulhameed, the former Managing Director of the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), is alleged to have taken possession of thirty-two official vehicles for personal use during his tenure.
Sources speaking to Daily Trust disclosed that Abdulhameed diverted the vehicles for personal use while in office, with only two of the vehicles recovered by security operatives following his arrest by the Department of State Service (DSS) for corruption-related crimes.
An insider at NIRSAL revealed that 21 of the vehicles were acquired with official funds under the guise of being auctioned in the names of certain staff members without their knowledge, only to be repurposed for the former MD’s personal use.
In addition to the vehicles, Abdulhameed is accused of appropriating nine luxury vehicles, including two bulletproof jeeps, and household items from four official guest houses owned by NIRSAL in Lagos, Abuja, and Yola.
A reliable security source confirmed the arrest of the former NIRSAL boss, who is currently in detention. The DSS has not provided an update on the situation at the time of this report.
The allegations against Abdulhameed have raised concerns about the misuse of official resources and assets, prompting further investigation into the matter.
