Kogi State’s incumbent Governor, Yahaya Bello, has unequivocally distanced himself from speculations suggesting that he would exert control over the Governor-elect, Usman Ododo. Addressing state House correspondents on Friday, Governor Bello asserted that Ododo would independently carry the responsibilities of ruling the state.
This statement followed the presentation of certificates of return to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Governor-elect Usman Ododo by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Governor Bello, affirming his commitment to adhering to the law and rules, emphasized that the incoming administration led by Ododo would operate autonomously. He stated, “This is going to be Usman Ododo administration, good or bad, which I pray is going to be good. He will carry his cross, and I know he will do well.”
Governor Bello urged the people of Kogi State to collaborate with the incoming government, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to ensure the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda set by the federal government.
Governor-elect Usman Ododo, expressing gratitude for the mandate from the people, assured that his administration would prioritize consultations with stakeholders to address the needs of the state. He acknowledged the support received from the people during the campaign and affirmed his commitment to serving the populace.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, also present at the event, highlighted the significance of the victory in Kogi and Imo states, stating that it validates the popularity of the APC and the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. Uzodinma emphasized the tradition of presenting certificates of return to the President after off-cycle elections and expressed gratitude for the President’s guidance and support.
