In a recent development, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. The court set the bail amount at N300 million.

Justice Hamza Muazu, who presided over the case, ruled on Wednesday that Emefiele is to produce two sureties, both of whom must possess landed property in the Maitama District of the FCT. This decision follows Emefiele’s recent remand at Kuje Prison.

Notably, Emefiele was not present in court during the proceedings today. Last week, he was remanded in Kuje Prison. However, in a separate hearing two weeks ago, another FCT High Court had ordered his release in a fundamental human rights suit filed against the federal government.

The court has adjourned the case until November 28 for the commencement of the trial. Emefiele faces legal proceedings, and this recent bail grant allows him temporary freedom as the legal process unfolds.

The development comes amid heightened public interest in the case involving the former CBN governor, and further details regarding the charges and trial are expected to emerge as the court proceedings progress.
