A peace agreement is set to be signed by political parties and their governorship candidates in preparation for the upcoming governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states. The announcement was made in a statement by the chairman of the National Peace Committee, Abdulsalami Abubakar, in Abuja on Saturday.

The former Nigerian leader, Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called for a commitment to peaceful, transparent, and equitable elections in these states and appealed to the citizens in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi to exercise their right to vote responsibly.

The statement from the National Peace Committee reads: “The NPC hereby wishes to announce the signing of peace accords on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, by political parties and other election stakeholders in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States. This is to pledge their commitment to peaceful, transparent, and equitable elections in their respective states. The responsibility for peace belongs to each of us. We appeal to citizens in these states to exercise their rights to vote, choosing their leaders according to the provisions of the law.”

In addition to the various candidates vying for office, the governors of Imo and Bayelsa states, Hope Uzodinma and Duoye Diri, will be among those signing the peace agreement. The National Peace Committee emphasized its best wishes for the residents of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, highlighting the significance of their collective efforts in ensuring an electoral process that embodies progress and hope, setting a standard for unity and growth in the nation.
