FG Announces Shutdown of Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos

In a recent announcement, the Federal Government has revealed plans to close the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State for necessary repairs. The closure is scheduled to take place from Saturday, October 21, until midnight on Sunday, October 22, 2023. The decision was communicated in a statement by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukorede Kesha.

The government’s initiative seeks to address critical issues affecting the bridge, with a focus on the Adeniji-bound carriageway. These repairs are part of a broader effort to improve the overall condition of the Third Mainland Bridge and enhance the safety and convenience of commuters.

According to Kesha, the comprehensive rehabilitation of the bridge aims to mitigate the difficulties currently experienced by those who rely on it for transportation. To facilitate the repair process, motorists are urged to cooperate with traffic management officials by following diversions and adhering to all traffic regulations during the period of palliative works.

While explaining the government’s approach, Kesha stated, “In order to alleviate the pains currently being experienced on the bridge, the Ministry would be carrying out palliative works on the most critically failed sections along the Adeniji-bound carriageway on Sunday, October 22, preparatory to the comprehensive repair works.” She also emphasized that motorists should consider utilizing alternative routes where possible during the temporary closure.

As a result of the necessary repair works, the Adeniji-bound side of the Third Mainland Bridge will be inaccessible to traffic from Saturday, October 21, until midnight on Sunday, October 22, 2023. This measure is taken to ensure the safety of commuters and the successful completion of the repair efforts.
