President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to immediately launch a coordinated operation to rescue victims of the recent mass abduction in Niger State.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, following the reported abduction and killing of civilians by criminal elements in the state.
Tinubu directed the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to work together to locate and rescue those still in captivity.
The President also expressed outrage over the attack and extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
Describing the incident as a “cowardly attack” on innocent citizens, Tinubu assured the victims’ families that the Federal Government would continue its efforts until all those abducted were brought home safely.
“Those who carried out this cowardly attack on defenceless Nigerians are enemies of peace and enemies of humanity, who will not go scot-free.”
The President said the loss of lives had caused deep pain to the affected families and communities, adding that the government shared in their grief.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who were killed in this barbaric assault and pray that Almighty God grant them eternal rest, and grant their loved ones the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
Tinubu further reassured families whose relatives remain in captivity that security agencies were working to secure their release.
“You are not alone. The entire nation shares your anguish. We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you,” he said.
Tinubu Demands Regular Updates
The President has also instructed the Service Chiefs to provide him with regular briefings on the progress of the rescue operation.
He said the government would continue to deploy the necessary resources to protect citizens and restore security in affected communities.
Tinubu vowed that the latest attack would not intimidate the country or weaken the government’s resolve to confront criminal elements.
“Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life.”
The President also expressed solidarity with residents of Niger State and assured the state government of continued federal support.
“My prayers are with the people of Niger State at this difficult time. The Federal Government stands firmly with the State Government and will provide all necessary support to aid recovery, relief, and security reinforcement,” Tinubu said.
The directive comes amid renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Niger State, with the Federal Government expected to intensify coordinated efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims and prevent further attacks.
