United States President Donald Trump has mourned the death of country music icon Dolly Parton, describing the legendary singer’s passing as a major loss to millions of people across the world.

Trump also ordered American flags across the United States to be flown at half-staff for one week in honour of the late entertainer.

The US president announced the decision in a post on his Truth Social account on Tuesday, which was subsequently shared by the White House on its X account.

Reacting to Parton’s death, Trump described her as one of the greatest country music performers of all time.

“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people,” Trump wrote.

He said Parton’s contribution to music and entertainment was unmatched, adding that her death would be deeply felt around the world.

“There has never been anyone like her, and never will,” Trump stated.

The president announced that the flags would be lowered from 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and remain at half-staff for seven days as a mark of respect.

“In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you,” he added.

Dolly Parton Dies at 80

Parton’s death was announced on Tuesday by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, in a post on Instagram.

The singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist rose from humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to become one of the most recognisable figures in global entertainment.

Born into a poor family and raised in a one-room cabin as one of 12 children, Parton began singing at church at an early age. She reportedly appeared on local television when she was just 10 before recording her first record three years later.

After graduating from high school in 1964, Parton moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting and build a career in country music.

Her breakthrough came through a series of successful recordings and her professional partnership with Porter Wagoner, which helped establish her as a major figure in country music.

She recorded several chart-topping songs, including “Joshua,” which became her first country No. 1 hit in 1971.

Parton later expanded her career into acting and became a successful Hollywood star.

She earned recognition for her performances in films including 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
