The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has said it is reviewing the results of Saturday’s governorship election before deciding whether to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory.
The party said the declaration of a winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not necessarily bring the electoral process to an end, stressing that dissatisfied candidates and political parties have the constitutional right to seek redress through the courts.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC said its leadership was carefully examining results from various wards across the state and would consult with its legal team before determining its next move.
According to the party, the electoral process extends beyond voting and the announcement of results.
“We are not unaware of the fact that election is a process which begins at the registration of the voters through the primary election to the election proper, which extends to the tribunal, the Appeal Court and terminates at the Supreme Court,” the APC said.
The party further argued that an election should not be regarded as completely settled until all available legal avenues have been exhausted.
“An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities to enrich the nation’s jurisprudence as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026 as amended,” it stated.
The APC said it would consider all options available under the law after receiving advice from its lawyers.
While reacting to the outcome of the election, the opposition party thanked its members and supporters for remaining loyal and urged them not to lose hope despite the result announced by INEC.
The party also called for calm across Osun State, urging its supporters to avoid confrontations or actions that could escalate political tensions.
“As a result of the foregoing, we are imploring our ever loyal members and supporters to remain calm while they carry on with their businesses and refuse to respond to any provocative action or inaction from any of the members of the ruling party across the state,” the statement read.
The APC assured its members that its leadership was still assessing the situation and had not ruled out further action.
“It is necessary to assure our members and supporters to remain steadfast about the current situation and have it in mind that it is not over until it is over,” the party added.
The opposition party also called on the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters, alleging that some of them were being subjected to harassment by members of the opposition.
The APC described the current political situation in Osun as a temporary phase and expressed confidence that the development would eventually become part of the state’s political history.
