The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims linking him to the ongoing screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he is not a member of the party and has no role in its internal affairs.

Wike made the clarification on Monday while speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT.

His comments followed reports that Siminalayi Fubara was allegedly sidelined during the APC screening exercise, while individuals believed to be loyal to Wike were reportedly favoured.

Reacting to the reports, the former Rivers State governor distanced himself completely from the process.

“I am not a member of the APC, so I don’t know what is happening in their screening. Even if they publish the results, why would I comment? I don’t know the reasons they have,” Wike said.

The minister further stressed that he would not speculate on matters that do not directly concern him.

“What pertains to me is what I will talk about, not what does not concern me. I’m not a native doctor, neither am I a prophet,” he stated.

Speaking on political developments in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, Wike said the emerging coalition in the state would focus on political strength and strategic alliances rather than strict party affiliation.

“That is the essence of the rainbow coalition in Rivers State. We will look at where we have strength, compare notes and vote accordingly,” he added.

During the tour, Wike also expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on several road and bridge projects in Abuja, noting that contractors had assured the FCT Administration that pending installations, especially streetlights, would be completed before the end of May.

“We are very happy. They promised that before the end of the month, they would finish the streetlights,” he said.

He specifically highlighted the progress recorded on the Dutse-Alhaji-to-M5 road project, adding that the road handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCCC) had been substantially completed.

“That road is already completed, and the contractor, CCCC, has promised that within the next 10 days, they will complete the streetlights. We are very comfortable and happy,” Wike stated.
