Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued his strongest public warning yet to Iran, describing the country as an “enemy” and cautioning that the United Arab Emirates should not be viewed as an easy target.
The Emirati leader, popularly known as MBZ, made the remarks while visiting a hospital where civilians injured in recent strikes were receiving treatment.
During the visit, he delivered a pointed message directed at Tehran, stressing that the UAE possesses the strength to defend itself despite its image as a peaceful and prosperous nation.
“I wanted to send a message to the enemy of the UAE. The UAE is beautiful, the UAE is a model to be followed, but I tell you, do not be deceived by that. The UAE’s hand can reach and is strong, its flesh is bitter, and we are not easy prey,” he said.
The comments come amid rising tensions across the Gulf region following escalating hostilities involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The UAE, like several other Gulf states, has recently faced threats from Iranian missile activity targeting not only U.S. military installations but also civilian and economic infrastructure across the region.
According to reports, MBZ’s remarks were broadcast shortly after Emirati air defence systems intercepted a missile threat, despite earlier suggestions by Iran’s leadership that attacks across the Gulf would cease.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to protecting the country, the president said the UAE’s armed forces remain focused on safeguarding both citizens and residents.
“We are carrying out our duty toward our country, our people, and those who live among us. May God protect the UAE, protect its people and everyone in it, and bless it with security and safety. I promise you that what is coming will show us stronger,” he added.
The statement marks MBZ’s first public comments since the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran began. Historically, the UAE has maintained cautious diplomatic ties with Iran despite periodic regional tensions.
