President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Oyedele’s nomination comes as Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite is redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, where she will serve as Minister of State. The move marks her third ministerial assignment under the current administration.

Before his nomination, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a body credited with spearheading a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax framework. An indigene of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and accountant brings over two decades of professional experience in fiscal policy and taxation.

He began his academic journey at the Yaba College of Technology, earning a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Oyedele further strengthened his credentials through executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Professionally, he spent 22 years at PwC, where he joined in 2001 and rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

In addition to his corporate career, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

If confirmed by the Senate, he is expected to play a key role in advancing the administration’s fiscal and tax reform agenda within the Ministry of Finance.
