The Department of State Services has apprehended a social media user in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for allegedly inciting the military to overthrow Nigeria’s democratically elected government.

The suspect, identified as Innocent Chukwuma, was tracked down and arrested following inflammatory posts on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he operates under the handle @TheAgroman.

In the posts that led to his arrest, Chukwuma explicitly called for military intervention in Nigeria’s governance. He urged armed forces personnel to dissolve the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government and align the country with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

“A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES,” read one of his posts, in which he also appealed directly to Nigerians to support a potential military takeover.

The suspect further accused the current administration of compromising national sovereignty, claiming the government had “sold this country to the West” and allowed foreign powers to control Nigeria’s intelligence systems.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported on the arrest, indicated that Chukwuma is currently in DSS custody and is cooperating with investigators.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns about the use of social media platforms to spread content that could threaten national security and constitutional order. Nigerian law enforcement agencies have increasingly moved to clamp down on online incitement, particularly calls for unconstitutional changes of government.

The DSS has not yet released an official statement on the arrest or provided details on potential charges the suspect may face.
