Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced a state broadcast scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, following his return to office after the federal government lifted the six-month emergency rule that had suspended his administration.

The governor made the announcement shortly after arriving at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, where he was welcomed by a large gathering of supporters who had assembled to celebrate his restoration to office.

Fubara expressed gratitude for what he described as an overwhelming reception, noting that the turnout demonstrated the strong connection between his administration and Rivers State residents. He indicated that the massive crowd that welcomed him both at the airport and at the Government House reflected genuine support for his leadership.

The governor acknowledged being briefed about activities that occurred at the Government House on Thursday, describing the reception as humbling and indicative of the love, confidence, and solidarity his administration enjoys among the people. He characterized the welcome as more than just a celebration, viewing it as evidence of meaningful public support.

According to Fubara, the large number of supporters who came out to welcome him home represents a reaffirmation of the bond between his government and the citizens it serves. He portrayed this demonstration of support as validation of his administration’s approach to governance and public service.

The governor assured the gathered crowd that his administration would maintain its commitment to the policies and programs that have generated public approval. He promised to continue implementing initiatives that have earned the affection and trust of Rivers State residents.

Fubara used the occasion to express appreciation for the support he has received, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to serving the people’s interests. He indicated that the warm reception had reinforced his commitment to responsive governance and public service.

The planned evening broadcast, according to the governor, will serve as an official address to acknowledge and commend various stakeholders who played important roles in restoring normal democratic governance to Rivers State. He promised that the broadcast would properly recognize all authorities and individuals who supported the return to constitutional rule.

The governor’s announcement comes as Rivers State transitions back to civilian governance after six months of federal administration under a sole administrator. The emergency rule had been imposed following a political crisis that paralyzed normal government operations and created a constitutional impasse between the executive and legislative branches.

Fubara’s return to office marks the resumption of elected governance in the state, with the governor, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly all restored to their constitutional roles. The successful transition back to civilian rule represents the resolution of the crisis that had prompted federal intervention.

The planned broadcast will provide the governor with an opportunity to address the state’s residents directly for the first time since his restoration, potentially outlining his administration’s priorities and plans moving forward. The address may also offer insight into how the government intends to navigate the post-emergency period and address any outstanding challenges.
