A prominent federal legislator has thrown his weight behind Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s potential presidential ambitions, offering to personally finance his campaign registration for the 2027 elections.

Representative Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, who goes by the moniker Odidiomo and represents the Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, made this bold commitment during a media briefing in Abuja over the weekend.

The two-term PDP House of Representatives member, who currently chairs the House Committee on Digital, ICT and Cybersecurity, positioned Governor Makinde as the opposition party’s strongest contender for the nation’s highest office.

“With the PDP’s decision to zone the presidential ticket to the South, Governor Makinde emerges as our standout candidate,” Olajide told reporters. He emphasized that the governor possesses an exceptional combination of academic credentials, political acumen, business experience, and global exposure that makes him uniquely qualified for the presidency.

The lawmaker praised Makinde’s dual-term governance of Oyo State, describing his administrative record as exemplary and noting his growing influence within the PDP and Nigeria’s broader political landscape.

Olajide expressed confidence that Makinde represents the PDP’s best chance of reclaiming the presidency from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly highlighting his potential to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the South-West region.

“Governor Makinde commands significant political capital that transcends party boundaries,” the representative noted. “I’m confident that multiple political organizations would be willing to merge their support structures to back his candidacy and remove the APC from power.”

The federal lawmaker commended Makinde’s governing approach, which he said effectively combines infrastructure investment with social programs, establishing a new benchmark for development-focused leadership in Nigeria.

Calling on the governor to formally announce his presidential intentions, Odidiomo suggested that Makinde could make history as both the first sitting governor to successfully transition to the presidency based purely on performance merit and the first Oyo State native to occupy the nation’s top office.

The endorsement signals growing momentum within PDP circles for Makinde’s potential 2027 campaign, as party members begin positioning for what promises to be a highly competitive presidential race.
