President Bola Tinubu is set to welcome Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, celebrating the team’s remarkable achievement at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Falcons made history by defeating Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in a captivating final in Rabat, claiming their 10th continental championship and reinforcing Nigeria’s status as the powerhouse of African women’s football.
The presidential reception forms part of a series of celebrations designed to recognize the team’s exceptional determination and stellar performance throughout the tournament. Upon their arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the victorious squad received a warm welcome from Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo, accompanied by several federal ministers.
The team’s homecoming has ignited nationwide celebrations, with supporters across Nigeria praising the players’ professionalism, unity, and unwavering determination that culminated in their historic victory.
Individual Excellence Shines
The tournament showcased exceptional individual performances from Nigerian players, with four Super Falcons stars earning places in the WAFCON Best XI. Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie were all recognized for their outstanding contributions throughout the competition.
Ajibade emerged as the standout performer, earning the Player of the Tournament award. The Atletico Madrid forward demonstrated remarkable consistency, securing Woman of the Match honors in three of Nigeria’s six matches, showcasing her leadership qualities and attacking prowess.
Okoronkwo proved equally impressive with her offensive contributions, recording two goals and four assists that were crucial to Nigeria’s championship campaign. Her creative play and finishing ability were instrumental in the team’s success.
Between the posts, Nnadozie established herself as the tournament’s premier goalkeeper, earning the Best Goalkeeper award after maintaining four clean sheets. Her performances have further solidified her reputation as one of Africa’s most reliable custodians.
