Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has boldly embraced the term “conspirator” while outlining his opposition alliance’s determination to remove President Bola Tinubu from power in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a birthday celebration for former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja on Saturday, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate declared that he and his political allies are united in their mission to end what he described as the current administration’s weaponization of poverty against Nigerian citizens.

Atiku’s remarks came during Amaechi’s 60th birthday festivities, where the former Vice President used the platform to launch a scathing attack on Tinubu’s economic policies while reinforcing the growing opposition movement that has emerged since the 2023 elections.

“You may call me a conspirator or anything, but that is why we are in this alliance, to make sure we don’t allow them to continue their weaponising policies,” Atiku declared to the gathering. The former presidential candidate specifically praised Amaechi as a key figure in their political coalition, describing him as “one of our star conspirators.”

The opposition leader accused the Tinubu administration of deliberately using poverty as a political tool, suggesting that government policies are designed to keep citizens economically vulnerable. Atiku warned that his coalition would actively work to prevent the continuation of such strategies, positioning their movement as a defender of ordinary Nigerians against government oppression.

“We are here to wish you many happy returns, and we will continue to conspire with you to minimise poverty and ensure that state machinery is not used to weaponise it,” Atiku told Amaechi during the celebration, using the birthday event to reinforce their political partnership.

The opposition coalition has been gaining momentum in recent months, bringing together prominent figures from across Nigeria’s political landscape who are united in their opposition to Tinubu’s presidency. Alongside Atiku and Amaechi, the alliance reportedly includes former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other influential stakeholders who have positioned themselves as alternatives to the current administration.

Recent reports indicate that coalition leaders have been holding strategic meetings to formalize their organizational structure and launch their political movement ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. These gatherings have focused on coordinating their opposition strategy and building a unified front capable of challenging Tinubu’s expected re-election bid.

The emergence of this opposition alliance represents a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, as former allies and rivals have set aside past differences to focus on their shared goal of removing the current president from office. The coalition’s formation suggests that the 2027 elections could witness unprecedented political realignments as opposition figures seek to present a credible alternative to Tinubu’s leadership.

Atiku’s willingness to embrace controversial language while describing his political activities demonstrates the combative tone that may characterize the upcoming electoral campaign. His use of terms like “conspirator” appears calculated to project strength and determination while rallying opposition supporters around their common cause.

As the 2027 elections approach, the opposition coalition’s activities are likely to intensify, with leaders like Atiku and Amaechi expected to play prominent roles in mobilizing resistance against Tinubu’s administration while building momentum for their alternative political vision.
