The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize solving the critical issues affecting Nigerians, including insecurity, rising hunger, and skyrocketing fuel prices. The opposition party advised the President to refrain from delivering a 2025 New Year message if he lacks actionable plans to tackle these challenges.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticized President Tinubu’s previous addresses, describing them as “empty rhetoric” filled with “baseless statistics, unfulfilled promises, and exaggerated performance claims.”
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congratulates Nigerians on the dawn of the year 2025 and calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to defile the new year with an address lacking immediate and practical steps to reduce fuel prices, combat widespread hunger, and provide clear measures to enhance security in the country,” the statement read.
The party also called on the President to implement solutions to “revive the economy, create employment opportunities, ensure free and fair elections, and improve the standard of living for Nigerians.”
The PDP further accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of being indifferent to the hardships faced by citizens, claiming that those in power continue to live extravagantly at public expense. “The APC administration sustains its opulent lifestyle with public resources while Nigerians bear the brunt of an economy in shambles,” the party stated.
Despite its critique of the ruling party, the PDP extended its congratulations to Nigerians on entering the new year, encouraging them to remain optimistic about the future of the country.
The PDP’s remarks reflect the growing discontent over the government’s handling of economic and security issues as Nigerians anticipate concrete solutions to ease their struggles in 2025.
