President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed as Director-General.
The campaign council, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will be headed by Tinubu as chairman, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as vice chairman.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has been appointed secretary, while APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as deputy and assistant secretaries respectively.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, is also listed as a vice chairman of the campaign council.
Tinubu charges campaign council with securing victory
President Tinubu urged members of the council to work collectively and vigorously towards securing victory for the APC in the January 2027 election.
He also directed leaders of the various directorates to bring on board other party members who may not have been included in the initial list but whose contributions could strengthen the campaign.
The President expressed confidence in his administration’s record, urging the campaign team to use its achievements as a major selling point during the electioneering period.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” Tinubu said.
He added, “We are definitely out of the dark tunnel and are now at the cusp of reaping the benefits of a prosperous economy that will benefit all Nigerians.”
According to the President, the campaign should focus on communicating the administration’s achievements while offering Nigerians renewed hope.
“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet. Let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” he said.
Tinubu further charged the APC campaign team to defeat opposition forces at the polls, stating, “Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”
Akpabio, Abbas, Buni appointed deputy DGs
The campaign council also assigns key responsibilities to senior APC figures.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been appointed deputy directors-general overseeing the southern and northern parts of the campaign.
They will work alongside Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Jibril Barau in coordinating activities across the two regions.
Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, will oversee mobilisation as deputy director-general, while the President’s Chief of Staff will serve as deputy director-general in charge of administration.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a key role in the APC’s 2022/2023 campaign, will return as deputy director-general responsible for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Regional directors named
Faleke will work with directors assigned to the various geopolitical zones.
The list includes Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.
Stella Okotete, Engineer Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori have been appointed secretaries of the election planning directorate.
Fagbemi, others join legal team
Muiz Adeyemi Banire will head the legal directorate, supported by Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputy directors.
Other members of the legal team include Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.
Mohammed Idris to coordinate media strategy
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, has been appointed coordinating director for media and strategic communication.
He will work with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu, who will serve alongside other senior officials in the media directorate.
Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka have been appointed coordinating deputy directors.
Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Frederick Nwabufor will serve as coordinating secretaries of the media directorate.
Segun Dada will head the New Media directorate, a position he previously held during the 2022 campaign, while Solomon Arowolo will serve as secretary.
Five spokespersons named
The APC campaign has also appointed five spokespersons, with Dele Alake named as the lead spokesperson.
Other spokespersons are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
The constitution of the campaign council comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general election, with the APC expected to deploy its campaign structure across the country in the months ahead.
