The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment of Nigeria (APPMEN) has postponed its planned Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort APPMEN/Content Creators 2026 Two-Day Retreat, citing security concerns across parts of the country.
The retreat, which was originally scheduled to hold from July 9 to 11, 2026, in Cross River State, will now be replaced with a one-day national conference scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Sunday, APPMEN said the decision was reached after a careful assessment of the prevailing security situation, stressing that the safety of its members, partners and participants remains paramount.
According to the association, “The decision follows a careful assessment of prevailing security challenges in parts of the nation. As proprietors of private media committed to truth and national interest, the safety and well-being of our members and participants remain our highest priority.”
The association added that it stands in solidarity with Nigerians affected by insecurity and remains committed to promoting peace, stability and responsible media leadership across the country.
The rescheduled event, to be hosted by the APPMEN Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, will hold under the theme, “APPMEN: Voice, Vision, Purpose.”
APPMEN said the conference will feature the investiture of its Grand Patron, Honorary National Patrons and The Nigeria We Want (TNWW) Ambassadors, as well as National Recognition Awards for distinguished Nigerians whose contributions have advanced national development across critical sectors of the economy.
The conference will also provide a platform for strategic engagements involving media proprietors and content creators, with discussions expected to focus on promoting responsible storytelling and shaping national narratives that support Nigeria’s development.
Speaking on the preparations for the conference, Chairman of the Planning Committee and APPMEN FCT Council Coordinator, Mr. Felix Onuah, assured members that all necessary arrangements were being put in place to ensure a successful event.
“The National Secretariat will coordinate and supervise the event to ensure successful hosting, while the newly appointed planning committee members have pledged their total commitment to delivering a successful conference,” he said.
The planning committee comprises Mr. Felix Onuah as Chairman, Pastor Bossey Edward Idogho, FCT Council Secretary, as Secretary, and Elder David Omoru, FCT Council Treasurer, as a member.
Reaffirming the association’s vision, APPMEN stated, “We remain steadfast in our mandate to strengthen private media, amplify responsible voices, and drive narratives that build Nigeria.”
The association also invited media stakeholders, development partners and content creators to participate in the Abuja conference, describing it as an opportunity to advance a new agenda for patriotic communication.
APPMEN further assured participants that all registrations and partnership arrangements already made for the postponed Obudu Retreat would automatically be transferred to the Abuja conference.
It added that details regarding the venue, accreditation process and participation guidelines would be announced by the Planning Committee in due course.
The association expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the postponement and thanked members and partners for their understanding and continued support.
