A factional spokesperson of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has alleged that the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, left the party with substantial funds belonging to the organisation after distancing himself from its affairs.

Speaking during an interview with Nevon HQ, Arabambi claimed that the Labour Party maintained billions of naira and millions of dollars in its accounts before Obi’s departure from the party.

According to him, the party had more than ₦12 billion in one account and an additional $15 million in a separate dollar-denominated account, which he alleged Obi took control of before leaving.

“In that account we had over ₦12 billion and in another dollar account we had $15 million that Obi ran away with. That was why he ran away from the Labour Party,” Arabambi alleged.

The Labour Party chieftain further questioned Obi’s financial capacity, claiming that the former Anambra State governor had never personally generated such wealth.

“Obi has never made ₦12 billion,” he stated.

Arabambi also alleged that one of Obi’s companies in the United Kingdom became insolvent over a debt of approximately £900,000.

“Even his company in the UK went bankrupt because of £900,000,” he added.

He disclosed that legal action would soon be initiated over the alleged disappearance of the party’s funds, insisting that the matter would not be allowed to go unresolved.

The allegations come amid ongoing political disagreements within the Labour Party and renewed debates about the future direction of the opposition party.

As of the time of filing this report, Obi had not publicly responded to the claims made by Arabambi.
