President Bola Tinubu has commended his son, Seyi Tinubu, for mobilising young Nigerians through the City Boys Movement and rallying support for his political ambition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The President gave the commendation during the inauguration of the City Boys Movement in Abuja, where he praised his son for engaging young people and organising them around his political cause without seeking an official position.
Tinubu disclosed that he had received several calls in recent weeks from individuals asking about Seyi’s political intentions and whether he planned to contest for an elective office.
According to the President, he told those who contacted him that his son was not pursuing a personal political ambition but was instead working to advance his father’s political interests.
“Permit me a personal moment for my son, Seyi. I’ve watched what you started with City Boy, and I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what Seyi is running for. I said he’s running after his father,” Tinubu said.
The President further praised Seyi for reaching out to young Nigerians within his age group, listening to their concerns and bringing them together in support of a common political objective.
He noted that his son had undertaken the mobilisation without demanding a political title or an appointment in government.
“You did it humbly, you did not ask for a title or an office, you went to the young people, your age mates, your group, you listened to them and you organised them, I am proud of all of you,” the President stated.
Tinubu’s remarks highlighted the role of the City Boys Movement in engaging young Nigerians and building grassroots support for his administration and anticipated re-election campaign.
The movement has been associated with efforts to mobilise young people in support of the President, as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
