The Nigerian Democratic Congress has announced that it will hold its maiden national convention in Abuja on Saturday as the party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and shared on the party’s official 𝕏 account.
According to the statement, delegates and stakeholders from across the country are expected to attend the gathering, which the party described as its inaugural national convention.
The event is billed to take place at the Los Angeles Event Centre along Ahmadu Bello Way in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, beginning from 10 a.m.
The party said all arrangements had been concluded for the convention and urged delegates to arrive early for the commencement of proceedings.
“The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) welcomes all delegates to its inaugural national convention holding on Saturday, 9th May 2026, at Los Angeles Event Centre, Ahmadu Bello Way, FCT Abuja, by 10 a.m.,” the statement read.
The announcement comes amid growing political discussions surrounding the party’s plans for the 2027 presidential election.
Meanwhile, the NDC has denied reports suggesting that it had entered into a political arrangement with former President Goodluck Jonathan regarding its presidential ticket.
The party maintained that consultations on zoning and candidate selection were still ongoing and that no agreement had been reached with Jonathan or any other aspirant.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the Deputy National Spokesman of the NDC, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, dismissed claims that the party had already decided where its presidential ticket would go.
“The NDC is a party that believes in merging ideas and consultations across boards,” Abdulsalam said.
“I can categorically tell you that we have not zoned the presidential ticket. Consultations are still ongoing since politics is a dynamic game,” he added.
The clarification followed speculation in political circles linking Jonathan with the party ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
