The presidential ambition of African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, received a boost on Friday following a high-level meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hayatu-Deen, who is seeking the ADC presidential ticket for the 2027 election, met privately with the former Nigerian leader to discuss the state of the nation and the country’s political future.

According to a statement issued by the Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Media Office, the visit was also aimed at formally notifying Jonathan of his decision to contest for the presidency under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

The meeting reunited two longtime associates who previously worked together during Jonathan’s years in government. Hayatu-Deen had served on the National Council on Privatisation and also chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises during Jonathan’s tenure as Vice President. He later became a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee when Jonathan served as Acting President and subsequently as President.

The statement noted that both men reflected on their longstanding relationship and mutual respect built over years of collaboration in public service.

During the meeting, Hayatu-Deen reportedly praised Jonathan for his continued democratic advocacy across Africa, particularly his role in promoting credible elections and democratic governance on the continent.

Jonathan, in response, warmly welcomed the ADC aspirant and wished him well in his presidential bid.

The statement further highlighted Hayatu-Deen’s over four decades of experience spanning both the public and private sectors, describing him as a leader with the capacity to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

It added that, if elected president in 2027, Hayatu-Deen would focus on job creation, economic revitalisation, reducing the cost of living, improving security, and expanding opportunities for Nigerians.
