The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that the National Assembly will likely decide on the proposed reinstatement of Senator Ali Ndume as Chief Whip after its current recess. Both the Senate and House of Representatives are on their annual break and are scheduled to reconvene on September 17.

Following his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Senator Ndume was removed from his position as Chief Whip of the Senate and replaced by Senator Tahir Monguno. However, weeks later, Ndume visited the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC in Abuja to issue an apology.

The APC national chairman, describing the issue as a “family affair,” confirmed that Ndume had been forgiven and that the party would communicate with the Senate to request his reinstatement.

In an interview with Punch, APC National Deputy Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru revealed that the party has already reached out to the Senate regarding the matter. However, he noted that the final decision now rests with the senators.

“I believe it is up to the senators to make the right decision,” Duru said. “I don’t think it is in our hands anymore. There has already been engagement with the leadership of the Senate.”
