Leaders of organized labor have accepted President Bola Tinubu’s ₦70,000 minimum wage proposal for Nigerian workers. The announcement was made during a meeting with leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated that the new minimum wage will be reviewed every three years.
Following the meeting, NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, along with TUC President Comrade Festus Usifo and other labor representatives, confirmed their acceptance of the new minimum wage. Ajaero highlighted that the unions agreed to the offer due to the additional incentives attached and the commitment to regular reviews.
“We accepted the offer because of the other incentives included and the President’s promise to review the minimum wage every three years, which is a significant improvement from the past,” Ajaero said.
