The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to confer posthumous awards upon the families of six police officers who were killed in Delta State.

The revelation was made by the spokesperson of the NPF, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today program on Tuesday.

Adejobi revealed that the force would stand by the families of the deceased officers during this challenging period, providing them with support and recognition. He highlighted that this event marks the first time such an initiative has been organized by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

“The IGP has decided to give posthumous awards to the six and our fallen heroes will also be honored. We are going to move with their families shoulder to shoulder and navigate these difficult moments,” Adejobi stated.

The tragic incident occurred while the officers were investigating the disappearance of three of their colleagues in Delta State. Adejobi confirmed that six officers lost their lives in the ambush, while six others are still missing. Additionally, five suspects have been apprehended in connection with the killings.

In a statement released by Adejobi following the incident, the NPF expressed profound sadness over the loss of the brave officers, who demonstrated exceptional courage in the face of adversity. The statement extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of their souls.

The NPF reiterated its commitment to standing in solidarity with the affected families and providing support during this period of profound sorrow. The planned posthumous awards serve as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
