In response to a viral report circulating on social media, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has categorically refuted claims that it had blacklisted over 100 individuals as fake professors associated with various universities.

The NUC’s acting Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki, vehemently denied the allegations, labeling the viral report as ill-motivated and misleading.

In an exclusive interview with Premium Times on Sunday, January 7, Maiyaki clarified that the NUC has never compiled a list of fake professors at any point in time. He expressed the agency’s intention to issue an official rebuttal to address the unfounded claims soon.

Maiyaki emphasized that the information circulating should be treated as mischievous and baseless, pointing fingers at individuals with malicious intent. He argued that such publications aimed to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of prestigious institutions whose names were mentioned in connection with the alleged fake professors.

The NUC official revealed that the alleged list was an attempt to undermine the regulatory efforts of the apex educational agency. He stated, “There was no time NUC listed anyone in Nigeria as fake professors, and, unfortunately, someone would go and dig up a report of 2019 five years after it had been clarified.”

In response to the situation, Maiyaki assured the public that the NUC would soon release a comprehensive rebuttal to set the record straight. He urged the public to exercise caution and discernment when encountering such information, recognizing it as the work of mischief-makers seeking to damage the credibility of the esteemed educational institutions named in the report.
