Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended commendations to the former Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma, on the occasion of his 86th birthday anniversary.
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari expressed his appreciation by making a phone call to Danjuma on Saturday, thanking him for his significant service to the nation.
Buhari acknowledged Danjuma’s pivotal role in building an army that was prepared for combat operations day and night, both domestically and internationally. The former president lauded Danjuma’s dedication and pride in serving the army, highlighting his legacy of contributing to public causes and the welfare of the underprivileged.
In the statement, Shehu quoted Buhari as saying, “T.Y as Chief of Army Staff, built an army that was ready to execute combat operations day and night, at home and abroad, and at all times displayed the soldierly spirit of valour and indomitable courage. He served the army with pride.”
Buhari conveyed his best wishes to Danjuma, expressing hopes for many more years of service to humanity, further building on his distinguished legacy.
In a related development, the socio-political group Ohanaeze Ndigbo has made a significant request for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), as the festive season approaches.
The group emphasized the importance of Kanu’s release for the South-East region, urging President Bola Tinubu to adopt a carrot-and-stick approach, similar to the strategies used by ex-presidents Umaru Musa Yar’adua and Goodluck Jonathan to address issues of militancy in the Niger Delta region.
