Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade has announced an official ban on the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests in Lagos, following President Bola Tinubu’s address to the demonstrators.

The ban, declared during a press briefing on Sunday, deems any further assemblies in the state illegal.

“The protest has been called off in response to the President’s speech,” Fayoade stated.

“The President has addressed the concerns of the demonstrators, and they are now awaiting his response to their demands. Therefore, any further gatherings are considered illegal and unlawful. We will enforce the full extent of the law.”

The nationwide protests, which began on Thursday, have now reached their fifth day. These demonstrations, advocating for economic and political reforms, have sparked violence in some regions, prompting state governments to impose curfews.

In Abuja, where protests have remained mostly peaceful, police have used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse crowds. Despite the President’s televised appeal for an end to the protests, which did not include substantial concessions, the demonstrations continued on Sunday.
