In a bid to alleviate the impact of rising inflation, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the suspension of import duties and taxes on selected items.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) revealed this measure to make essential goods more affordable for Nigerians during these challenging economic times.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, announced the initiative on Tuesday, underscoring the government’s dedication to addressing inflation effectively.
Mr. Adeniyi elaborated on the streamlined export processes introduced by the NCS to boost the efficient movement of Nigerian goods to international markets. These processes include advanced ruling systems, authorized economic operators, and a time-release study, all aimed at enhancing trade, stimulating the economy, and creating opportunities for Nigerian farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs.
“We are committed to implementing this measure seamlessly to tackle the issue of hunger in our nation,” Mr. Adeniyi stated.
Beyond economic measures, the NCS is also ramping up efforts to prevent the influx of arms and dangerous weapons through Nigeria’s land, sea, and airports. Mr. Adeniyi warned that disruptions in the supply chain could negatively impact foreign investment, distort trade, promote instability, increase scarcity, and hinder revenue collection.
“In these challenging times, let us unite in resilience and cooperation. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have embraced the path of peace and dialogue,” Mr. Adeniyi said.
He called for constructive engagement and cooperation from all Nigerians to navigate the current challenges and build a brighter future.
