Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State swore in eight new commissioners on Tuesday, following their screening and confirmation by the State House of Assembly earlier in the day. The ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government.
During the event, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of maintaining accurate records within their respective ministries. He urged the new commissioners to adopt his meticulous work ethic and attention to detail, which should be reflected in the records they keep.
Governor Fubara highlighted the significance of the oath of service they took, stating that it should guide their conduct while serving the state. He reminded the commissioners that their appointment was a privilege granted by God and that they owe a duty to deliver for the people of Rivers State.
“The oath you took is the charge. I am not asking you to be obedient to me. I am not asking you to do my bidding. But I am requesting from everyone of you here to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the dignity of our dear state,” Fubara said.
He stressed that their roles were not to serve him personally but to work in the best interests of the state. Fubara expressed confidence in their integrity, assuring that they would not bring shame to the state, their families, or their local governments.
Fubara concluded by encouraging the new commissioners to build on the progress made by his administration and strive for greater success while always defending the state’s interests and doing what is right.
