The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its efforts to combat the spread of fake news in Nigeria with the official inauguration of EFCC Radio, 97.3 FM, in Abuja.
During the ceremony held yesterday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, reiterated their commitment to this cause.
Addressing attendees, Minister Idris applauded the EFCC for its unwavering dedication to tackling economic and financial crimes, stressing the significant impact of the commission’s activities on Nigerian society. He particularly praised the establishment of EFCC Radio as a proactive measure to counter false narratives and misinformation surrounding the commission’s operations.
Idris pledged increased support and collaboration from the Federal Government to ensure the effective functioning of the radio station and other initiatives by the EFCC.
Chairman Olukoyede reflected on the journey leading to the establishment of EFCC Radio, describing its inauguration as a significant milestone in the commission’s efforts. He condemned the proliferation of false information and emphasized the radio station’s role in disseminating accurate narratives about the EFCC’s activities.
Senator Emmanuel Udende, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-corruption and Financial Crimes, highlighted the detrimental impact of corruption on Nigeria’s progress. He underscored the importance of EFCC Radio in raising public awareness and fostering transparency in the fight against corruption.
Honourable Kayode Akinolu, Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes, urged Nigerians to embrace EFCC Radio as their primary source of information, recognizing its pivotal role in combating corruption.
