The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has officially announced that the abductors of the 137 Kuriga school children in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been neutralized during a rescue operation.
This revelation comes after the military successfully rescued the abducted pupils in Zamfara State on March 24, 2024, following a reported intense confrontation between the terrorists and troops, in collaboration with local authorities and government agencies.
The rescued pupils, who endured captivity for 18 days, were subsequently handed over to the Kaduna state government for rehabilitation before being reunited with their families.
In an exclusive chat with Leadership, the Defence spokesman, General Edward Buba, disclosed that the children were liberated as a result of coordinated military operations, in partnership with local authorities. General Buba confirmed that several terrorists involved in the kidnapping were eliminated during the operation, although no arrests were made.
“Several terrorists were killed in military action, and no arrest was made,” stated General Buba.
Additionally, the DHQ reiterated its commitment to maintaining the momentum of successful operational engagements, exemplified by the recent rescue of hostages in Sokoto and Kaduna States. Speaking at a briefing, General Buba emphasized the military’s determination to sustain its effective approach in addressing security challenges, ensuring a safer environment for all.
“The rescue of these hostages is indicative of a better understanding of the dynamics of what we are dealing with and to address the issue in a much safer manner,” General Buba affirmed.
The DHQ’s update on the successful rescue operation provides a glimmer of hope amidst ongoing security concerns, demonstrating the military’s resolve to safeguard the lives and well-being of citizens across the country.
