The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Mahmoud, has strongly condemned the looting of a warehouse in the Gwagwa-Tasha neighborhood of Abuja, describing it as a criminal act.

During an assessment visit to the looted warehouse on Monday to assess the extent of the damage, Minister Mahmoud expressed dismay over the incident and threatened to prosecute those involved, emphasizing that the looting went beyond mere hunger.

Speaking to reporters, Mahmoud provided details of the tragic situation, stating that hoodlums had stolen all the grains and other food items from the warehouse, as well as vandalizing the property by removing the roof, windows, and fence.

The minister vowed that the FCT Administration would take decisive action to prevent such incidents in the future, announcing plans to install police posts in all government warehouses across the territory.

“We are here due to the unfortunate incident that happened early hours of yesterday, where hoodlums attacked this very warehouse and packed everything that is here, including the fence. Not only the food items that are here, including the roofing, windows, and even the gates of this place and offices were all attacked,” Minister Mahmoud stated.

She explained that the incident occurred while the FCT Administration was stocking its warehouses to comply with the president’s directive to distribute palliative care to each of the territory’s six area councils.
