In a disturbing turn of events, a woman participating in a protest against the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule has been shot. The protests erupted in Lafia and various parts of the state following the court’s verdict, which upheld Sule’s election and dismissed the case brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Emmanuel Ombugadu.

A video circulating on social media captured the harrowing moment when the woman, in a state of undress, walked alone during the protest, only to be targeted by an unidentified individual who shot at her. The woman’s identity remains unknown at this time, but the graphic footage showed her in distress, crying, and rolling in a pool of her own blood.

A voice in the background, speaking in Hausa, commented after the woman fell, expressing concern over the unfolding situation: “Lafia has become what it has become.”

Prior to this incident, the police in the state took forceful measures to disperse elderly women at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state secretariat, deploying tear gas to control the situation.

The unrest in Lafia and other parts of the state underscores the intense reactions to the Supreme Court’s decision, with citizens expressing their dissatisfaction through protests. The violent turn of events, particularly the shooting of the protesting woman, raises concerns about the safety and security of individuals participating in demonstrations following significant legal rulings. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and address the escalating tensions to ensure the safety of the public.
