In a significant restructuring move, President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officers of two federal government agencies.
According to a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Babatunde Irukera, the EVC/CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), and Alexander Ayoola Okoh, the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), have been relieved of their positions.
The directives for their dismissal are effective immediately and align with President Tinubu’s plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government. The two dismissed Chief Executives are instructed to hand over to the next most senior officer in their respective agencies, pending the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers.
The statement explained, “In conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions, President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the following Chief Executive Officers:”
- Mr. Babatunde Irukera — EVC/CEO, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC)
- Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh — Director-General/CEO, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE)
The removal of the two Chief Executives is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of these agencies and ensuring their alignment with the government’s goals. The immediate effect of their removal underscores the urgency and priority given to the restructuring process as President Tinubu takes steps to bring in new leadership for these key government institutions.
