In a tragic aftermath of vicious attacks by bandits in Plateau State, over 96 victims have been laid to rest in mass burials. The attacks, which occurred in different communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas, resulted in widespread destruction, with residents killed and houses burnt.
The onslaught unfolded on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, in various locations, including Ruku, Hurum, Darwat, Mai Yanga Sabo, NTV villages in Gashish, and Ropp Districts of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, as well as in Bokkos LGA.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association, led by Solomon Mwantiri, reported specific casualty figures in the affected villages. NTV witnessed nine casualties, Mai Yanga Sabo had five, Darwat reported three, and Hurum had one victim. However, the neighboring villages of Bokkos suffered the most significant impact, with a death toll exceeding 40, along with numerous injuries, looting of food items, and widespread destruction of property.
The attacks have raised serious concerns about the escalating security challenges in Plateau State, with residents grappling with the devastating consequences of the banditry. The mass burials underscore the severity of the situation and the urgent need for increased security measures to protect vulnerable communities in the region.
