The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has been appointed to lead the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign’s Directorate of Air Mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Keyamo will oversee air travel and aviation logistics for the campaign, including the coordination of flights and movement of designated officials and personnel across the country.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood.
According to the statement, Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and Farouk Umar have been appointed Deputy Director I and Deputy Director II of the directorate, respectively.
Moshood explained that the directorate was established to manage the air transportation requirements of a campaign expected to cover the country’s six geopolitical zones.
He said its responsibilities would include coordinating air movements, organising travel arrangements for designated campaign officials and staff, and planning flights to support campaign activities nationwide.
The directorate is also expected to work with other campaign departments to ensure efficient logistics and smooth coordination of travel arrangements.
Moshood said the operations would be conducted in accordance with aviation regulations and applicable electoral laws.
The statement highlighted Keyamo’s experience as aviation minister, noting his efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation industry, improve its international standing and position the country as a leading aviation hub in Africa.
“His familiarity with the operational demands of the aviation industry is expected to provide useful leadership in coordinating the directorate’s activities and establishing an effective framework for air-mobilisation planning,” the statement said.
It added that the appointment of Kuku and Umar would strengthen the directorate by bringing additional technical knowledge and leadership experience from the aviation sector.
“The appointment of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and Umar as Deputy Directors also brings aviation-sector leadership and technical experience into the directorate, strengthening its capacity to address the planning and coordination demands associated with nationwide campaign movements,” Moshood stated.
The appointments place Keyamo and the two aviation officials in charge of a key logistical component of the APC’s campaign preparations, with air transportation expected to facilitate the movement of campaign personnel and support activities across the country.
