An Abuja-based businessman, Safwan Garba, and his company, GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $2.1 million land deal involving Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The petitioners accused Jordan of collecting the money under the promise of securing allocations for 60 hectares of land in the FCT but allegedly failing to fulfil the agreement.

In a petition dated December 11, 2025, their lawyer, Hamza Dantani, alleged that Jordan claimed he had his father’s knowledge and approval to facilitate the land allocations.

According to the petition, the proposed allocations were for 30 hectares each in Katampe and Guzape districts of the FCT.

The petitioners alleged that Jordan presented himself as someone who regularly assisted individuals in obtaining land allocations within the territory.

The petition read, “Upon returning to Nigeria about three months ago, Jordan met with our client. He promised to facilitate the acquisition of land within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), based on his prior representations that he routinely provided such facilitation and that he had his father’s knowledge and approval, as the Honourable Minister of the FCT.”

The businessman reportedly became acquainted with Jordan in London, where the two developed a friendship before discussing the proposed land transaction.

The petition further alleged that Jordan contacted his father by telephone in Garba’s presence, purportedly to inform him about the arrangement and strengthen the businessman’s confidence in the deal.

The complainants claimed that Jordan demanded $2 million, allegedly intended for onward delivery to his father to facilitate the land allocations, in addition to $100,000 as his personal fee.

They alleged that the total sum of $2.1 million was paid in cash on October 17, 2025, at Jordan’s insistence, in the presence of two witnesses identified as Adamu Sani and Aliyu Sarki.

The petitioners also claimed that Jordan arrived with an associate, Onor Sandy, whom he introduced as a friend.

According to the complainants, Jordan promised to complete the land allocation process within one month but allegedly failed to deliver after receiving the money.

They further claimed that their subsequent efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.

“The UK phone number he provided is no longer reachable, and all attempts by our client, including through individuals known to the Honourable Minister, to establish contact with him have failed,” the petition stated.

The petitioners accused Jordan of alleged fraud, obtaining money under false pretences, criminal misappropriation and conversion. They urged the EFCC to investigate the matter, question him and initiate prosecution if evidence establishes his culpability.

They also expressed their willingness to provide witnesses and additional information to assist the commission, stating that an acknowledgement of payment allegedly signed by Jordan was attached to the petition.

Speaking to journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, counsel to the claimants, Ibrahim Waru, said the EFCC had acknowledged receiving the petition but had yet to take action, according to the report.

Waru explained that the petition sought to prompt a criminal investigation into the allegations, distinct from the civil proceedings already instituted before the FCT High Court.

Meanwhile, Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the FCT High Court has scheduled December 1 for the continuation of proceedings in the civil suit, marked CV/008/2026, filed by the claimants against Jordan.

However, Jordan has denied the allegations, telling the court that he was not in Nigeria when the money was allegedly paid to him.

He reportedly presented his international passport as evidence, maintaining that he had travelled outside the country using his American passport during the period in question.

In a related development, the claimants have written to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, seeking Justice Oriji’s removal from the case over an alleged relationship between the judge and the minister’s family.

The allegations remain claims made by the petitioners, while Jordan has denied wrongdoing. Any determination of criminal liability would depend on the outcome of the relevant investigations and judicial proceedings.
