Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to lead campaign teams for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.
Wike disclosed this on Friday while inspecting the ongoing Phase Two construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project in Chikuku, Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor said political parties were already reorganising ahead of the 2027 general elections, while supporters of Tinubu from different political platforms were also putting campaign structures in place.
He said he would personally head the campaign structures in both the FCT and Rivers State.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign,” Wike said.
“For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kickstart. Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which I will lead.”
Wike added that APC members were prepared for the election and expressed confidence in the level of support he said the administration was receiving.
“All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm,” he said.
The FCT minister also linked the administration’s infrastructure projects to what he described as growing public support.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against Mr President as far as this election is concerned,” Wike said.
He added that the projects being executed by his administration in the FCT would serve as evidence of governance ahead of the election.
“This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes. It is very obvious,” he said.
Wike further stated that the projects being delivered in the capital should not be interpreted as evidence of electoral malpractice.
“Nobody will be able to claim rigging in the FCT. The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are delivering, making the people happy,” he said.
He also expressed satisfaction with the development around the Kuje-Gwagwalada corridor, saying the population and reaction of residents demonstrated the importance of infrastructure projects.
“You can imagine the enthusiasm and happiness on the faces of the people. That is why we say the essence of governance is to make people happy. When the people are happy, those in authority are happy,” Wike said.
