The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has appointed Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari, son of former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, as Director-General of its campaign organisation for the 2027 governorship election.
Gambari is expected to lead the campaign structure of the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu, as the PDP intensifies preparations for the election.
The appointment followed an expanded meeting of the state PDP leadership chaired by the party’s state chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, announced the appointment in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Adewara, Gambari was among the leading aspirants who contested the PDP’s 2026 governorship primary, which was eventually won by Kawu.
Reports had emerged after the primary suggesting that Gambari was dissatisfied with the outcome. However, he subsequently dismissed the speculation and remained active in the party’s activities.
The PDP said Gambari’s background and experience in international law, finance and real estate were among the factors considered in appointing him to head the campaign organisation.
The party expressed confidence that his experience would be useful in coordinating its campaign structure across the various parts of Kwara State ahead of the 2027 poll.
