Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the FCT in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the statement on Thursday while inspecting ongoing road projects, including the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa roads.
The minister said the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure projects across the FCT, particularly in the satellite towns, would influence voters ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Wike, the visible projects and other developments in the territory have given the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) a record to present to residents, unlike what he described as opposition rhetoric.
He said, “If governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear.”
Wike further argued that the administration had moved beyond promises by addressing infrastructure challenges confronting residents.
“Now, the Tinubu administration has come and it’s not only listening to you, it’s not only caring for you, it’s solving your problems. Why will they want to change their mind?” he asked.
The FCT minister dismissed what he described as campaign stories from opposition parties, insisting that his support for Tinubu was based on projects that could be verified.
“This is the campaign. The people who will come, what will they come with? They will tell them a story. But we have not come with stories, we have come with facts, verifiable facts,” Wike said.
He added that he was confident of the President’s performance at the polls in the territory.
“I can beat my chest, I can close my eyes and go home and sleep with my two eyes closed, that Tinubu will emerge. I have no fear at all,” he stated.
Wike also highlighted the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it had expanded the focus of infrastructure development beyond Abuja city centre to communities in the satellite towns.
He said the approach had changed the way development was being delivered across the FCT.
“We thank God Almighty that has given us a President who has come to listen and to change the narrative that development must not only be concentrated within the city centres, but also spread in the satellite towns,” the minister said.
Wike maintained that the ongoing projects would provide the administration with tangible achievements to present to residents ahead of the 2027 election.
