The Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), unveiling what he described as the “Reset Nigeria Movement” aimed at mobilising support across the country.
Makinde made the announcement on Thursday during a mega rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he told supporters that Nigeria was in urgent need of transformational leadership and institutional reforms.
Addressing the crowd, the governor said the country could no longer continue with “politics as usual,” stressing that the time had come to rebuild public trust and reposition the nation for sustainable growth and development.
“Nigeria can not continue with politics as usual. This is the time to reset our nation, rebuild public trust, strengthen institutions and create a system that works for all Nigerians,” Makinde declared.
According to him, the Reset Nigeria Movement would focus on economic growth, job creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, power sector reforms, security and institutional strengthening.
The governor also unveiled a campaign website and a media resource centre designed to provide members of the public with access to official statements, campaign materials and other information relating to his presidential ambition.
Makinde described the APM as a strong alternative platform for Nigerians dissatisfied with the country’s current political structure, insisting that the party would serve as a credible third force ahead of the 2027 general election.
Explaining his decision to join the presidential race, the Oyo State governor said he was motivated by the desire to rescue Nigeria from its current socio-economic and political challenges while replicating at the national level what he called the success story recorded in Oyo State under his administration.
“Today marks the beginning of a new journey for our dear country. We are not just declaring a candidacy, we are announcing the birth of a new nation where equity, progress and development are not just slogans but realities for every Nigerian,” he said.
