President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of his cabinet, resulting in the exit of two ministers and the nomination of a replacement, according to an official statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In a memo signed by George Akume, Mr. Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa have been directed to step down from their positions in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, will be replaced by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele. Oyedele, previously Minister of State in the same ministry, has now been elevated to assume full responsibility for the finance portfolio.
Similarly, Dangiwa has been asked to hand over his duties at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to the Minister of State pending the confirmation of a new appointee. The President has nominated Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) as minister-designate for the ministry.
The directive stipulates that all handover processes must be concluded no later than April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes are intended to improve government performance and coordination.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.
Akume also emphasized that the President acted within his constitutional authority.
“The President has fully exercised his powers as conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended),” he said.
The statement added that President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Akume further noted that the administration remains committed to ongoing reforms within the cabinet.
“The President equally assured all cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous,” he added.
