United States President Donald Trump has accused CNN of airing what he described as a false statement attributed to Iran regarding the recent ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran.
CNN had reported that Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) described the ceasefire as a major victory, claiming the country inflicted a “historic and crushing defeat” on its adversaries and compelled the United States to accept a 10-point proposal as part of the deal.
Reacting on Truth Social, Trump rejected the report, calling it fraudulent. He alleged that the statement originated from a “fake news site from Nigeria,” though he did not name the outlet or provide evidence to back the claim.
“The alleged statement put out by CNN World News is a fraud, as CNN well knows,” Trump said, accusing the network of promoting unverified information.
The ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran was announced shortly before a deadline previously issued by Trump, in which he warned of severe consequences if tensions escalated.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that Tehran would suspend defensive operations if attacks by the United States and Israel stopped. He also noted that Iran would allow limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for global shipping under coordinated conditions.
Iranian state-linked media outlets, including Tasnim News Agency, also published similar statements attributed to the SNSC, reinforcing claims that the ceasefire terms were favorable to Tehran.
CNN has defended its report, insisting the statement was sourced from Iranian officials and corroborated by multiple state-affiliated media outlets.
