Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the current economic hardships, assuring citizens that ongoing reforms will eventually lead to national prosperity.

Speaking at the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio acknowledged the widespread concerns about poverty levels but urged patience as the government implements transformative policies.

The Senate President drew a compelling analogy between national development and cathedral construction to illustrate the time and dedication required for meaningful change.

“Let me seize this opportunity to urge my compatriots to be patient with your government as we lay the foundations of this house again. Do not despair when the winds blow strongly or the scaffolding shakes,” Akpabio stated.

“For a nation is like a mighty cathedral, it is not raised overnight, but stone by stone, prayer by prayer, hand by hand. Let us, therefore, renew hope in the Nigerian enterprise.”

## Call for National Unity and Optimism

Akpabio emphasized the importance of collective belief in Nigeria’s potential, encouraging citizens to maintain faith in the country’s ability to overcome current challenges.

“Let us believe again that our land can be great, that our children can inherit a future brighter than our present. Let us bind the wounds of division, banish the cynicism of despair, and walk together, Church and State, pulpit and parliament, faith and policy, towards the dawn,” he declared.

The Senate President stressed that national transformation cannot be achieved by any single sector of society, requiring collaborative efforts from all stakeholders.

Government’s Commitment to Economic Stability

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who represented President Tinubu at the Catholic gathering, reinforced the administration’s dedication to economic recovery and institutional strengthening.

“This administration came into office with a firm commitment to renew hope, strengthen our democratic institutions, and build a Nigeria that works for all,” Akume assured the audience.

He outlined the government’s strategic approach to addressing economic challenges, highlighting efforts to stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment.

“We have taken bold steps to stabilise the economy, attract investment, and implement reforms that will bring enduring benefits to our country,” the SGF explained.

Akume also acknowledged the current difficulties faced by citizens and assured that the administration is actively working to cushion the impact of ongoing economic reforms while pursuing long-term stability.

The statements from both officials come amid growing public concern about rising living costs and economic uncertainty affecting millions of Nigerians across the country.
