Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to contest the 2027 presidential election against President Bola Tinubu, describing circulating campaign materials as fabricated by “mischief makers.”
In a statement released Friday by his Media Office Director, Ohiare Michael, Bello clarified he has no presidential ambitions and reaffirmed his “unflinching commitment” to President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The former governor’s team described viral campaign posters as “false, misleading and the handwork of mischief makers who wanted to bring down the former Governor at all costs.”
According to the statement, detractors recycled images from a 2022 rally, falsely presenting them as recent presidential campaign materials to create controversy between Bello and President Tinubu.
“In their desperate bid to create a crisis where there is none, they forgot the 2022 dates written boldly on the banners on display,” the statement noted, urging Nigerians to be wary of “witless bloggers who concoct stories without thinking.”
Bello praised President Tinubu’s performance despite global challenges, stating: “The President and his team have done exceedingly well for the country, despite global challenges. On merit, he deserves the support of well-meaning Nigerians.”
The former governor’s office emphasized this wasn’t the first attempt by “detractors and their co-travellers” to fabricate stories aimed at setting him against the President, describing such efforts as part of a “bring-him-down-at-all-costs” mission that has “always failed woefully.”
The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the “mischievous post” as the work of “a confused, witless mind.”
